Eugenio Javier Miravete
Job Title
Research Interests

Dr.Miravete's area of research is Empirical Industrial Organization with an edge on price discrimination. Most of his work makes use of theoretical models of nonlinear pricing to develop structural estimation methods that account for asymmetry of information and strategic interactions that firms encounter when they design their tariff options. His most recent work is at the crossroads of Industrial Organization and Public Finance, analyzing the effect of commodity taxation on oligopoly industries where individual firms have market power. He has also worked on the empirical measurement of complementarities and studied how learning-by-doing may influence optimal trade tariffs when governments cannot commit to future trade liberalization. He has also developed empirical methods to quantify the taxation equivalence of regulation in the context of protection of the domestic automobile industry in Europe.

Comments about previous experiences working with students

I basically interact with Ph.D. candidates in Economics. Former graduate students that I have advised at UT found jobs in private business and consulting (Amazon, Boston Consulting Group, Ford Motor Company, Uber), government (Federal Reserve Bank) as well as in academia (University of Connetticut, Princeton, Temple, UCLA).
