I study how information systems make things so in the world. That is, how we use information systems to make things true or false, and what we do after we are certain. To study this, I apply a sociotechnical perspective to a variety of information systems, from books to databases to algorithms. My work incorporates philosophy, information ethics, infrastructure studies, and algorithm studies.
In addition to my theoretical work, I also design and build information systems aimed at using my research insights to make the world a better place. I co-founded Trinket.io, a coding platform designed for education. My teaching interests include programming and the organization of information.
