My research areas include film music, music and visual media, twentieth-century avant-garde and experimental music, and musical theater. In the coming years, I am working on a project about music during the transition from silent to synchronized sound film, examining the ways directors, producers, and composers responded to technological change during sound film's early years. I also have ongoing projects on contemporary American composers, and on the film musical.
