Thomas focuses his research on the relationship between demography and social processes in four specific areas: the social incorporation of Black immigrants, racial and ethnic inequality, international migration and its determinants, and family demography. He notes that as the number of Black immigrants in the U.S. increases, his research has added to the growing number of studies on their social incorporation found in the immigration literature.
