Li group uses various laser spectroscopy to study new materials. Recent examples of materials investigated include thin layers that are just one atom or one unit cell thick. These materials can be prepared by just using Scotch tape! We have also investigated individual nanoparticles. Some are those responsible for colorful windows in Churches. We also investigate small magnets that can be used for storing information. Li group has provided supervised research experiences for more than 50 undergraduates since 2007. Undergraduates who are interested in working with us usually start by taking an individual study course for one semester. Many B.S. programs at UT count such a course toward credits for their degree.
