The overall goal is to define the molecular actions of alcohol and related drugs on brain signalling systems and to understand the molecular basis of genetic differences in alcohol susceptibility. Our approach has two stages: 1) use of expression systems and mutant proteins to elucidate molecular targets ('receptors'), and 2) use of transgenic and null mutant mice to determine the role of specific genes in alcohol actions in vivo.
