Artist/Scholar Initiative

This project is closed. No applications are allowed.

The Artist/Scholar Initiative documents and highlights the work of contemporary cultural producers who consider themselves both artists and scholars. The multi-faceted digital humanities project includes several types of public-facing elements: an interactive website, a documentary-style web series, an international conference, and an edited volume that would include contributions from conference participants. The goal of the initiative is three-fold: to convene those who work within the academy but are also practicing artists; to render the concept of the artist/scholar intelligible to the public; and to consider how activism functions in the work of artist/scholars historically and in the present. Focusing on these goals will allow the initiative to highlight the contributions of artist/scholars as well as examine how theorist/practitioners are addressing the urgent issues, questions and problems of this heightened cultural and political moment.
