AboutThe Burgermaster Lab uses data and technology to help people prevent and manage diet-related chronic disease with a special focus on groups for whom new technologies are not typically designed. In this volunteer research experience, you will work alongside a team of researchers and graduate students to work on nutrition-focused computational projects. Example projects from prior computational RAs   include: developing and coding an algorithm to analyze food diary data; researching and implementing machine learning methods for ultra-processed food classifications 

Details

  • Application due: January 8th, 2023 at 11:59 PM (select applicants will be invited to a Zoom interview in the month of January) 
  • Commitment: 5-10 hours/week; 1-2 hours/week of virtual meetings during business hours. Other work time is flexible 
  • Eligibility: UT Austin freshman – junior   
  • Duration: Spring 2023, with hopes to continue additional projects for the lab! (Course credit opportunities available after Spring 2023)

Skills Required:  

  • Python for Data Analysis (IDE: JupyterLab)  
  • numpy 
  • pandas  
  • R (IDE: RStudio)  
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration and communication  
  • Aptitude for problem-solving  
  • Organization/time management skills 
  • Alignment with the mission of the Burgermaster Lab
