Data science support for research project on state of scientific research

Professors Raissa Fabregas at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and Manuela Angelucci at the Economics Department are looking for an advanced undergraduate student in Computer Science or with knowledge of data science to provide support for a research project focused on documenting 

Tasks involve:

  • Support in the creation of a database of registered scientific projects. 
  • Web scrapping to find published or unpublished scientific articles and create a database of project
  • Linking databases, conducting data-cleaning and preliminary analysis. 

The project only requires a commitment of a few hours per week (or until completion of the project).

Candidates should have sufficient knowledge to be able to complete all the required tasks with minimal supervision. 

Qualifications
  • Advanced undergraduate student in computer science or related field with knowledge of web-scrapping using python or similar. 
  • Organized, responsive and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to self-manage and trouble shoot
  • Interested in quantitative research in the social sciences

Project Timeline
  • We are hoping to start as soon as possible. We can discuss timeline and time commitment with interested candidates, depending on how long it would take them to complete tasks. 
Duties
  • Support in the creation of a database of registered scientific projects. 
  • Web scrapping to find published or unpublished scientific articles and create a database of project
  • Linking databases, conducting data-cleaning and preliminary analysis. 
Typical Time Commitment
2 hours/week or until project is complete (this is flexible and up to you)
