Mapping Avian Biodiversity

This project is closed.

We are initiating a project to build detailed maps of avian biodiversity across Texas. Our goal is to integrate multiple sources of information on species occurrences (bird surveys, ebird, etc.). These data will be used to conduct landscape conservation assessments and to build spatial models.

Qualifications

Requires attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work with Google Maps is helpful.

Project Timeline

Students can start immediately. This phase will probably be completed at the end of Fall 2019, however additional research opportunities will arise. Later phases may involve working with bird tracking data and with birds in the field.

Duties

Create maps of bird survey sites as reported on a website. This involved accessing descriptions of driving routes and building maps of stopping points.

Typical Time Commitment
10 hours/week
Desired Length of Commitment
minimum 1 semester

I'M INTERESTED IN THIS PROJECT. WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

The Office of Undergraduate Research recommends that you attend an info session or advising before contacting faculty members or project contacts about research opportunities. We'll cover the steps to get involved, tips for contacting faculty, funding possibilities, and options for course credit. Once you have attended an Office of Undergraduate Research info session or spoken to an advisor, you can use the "Who to contact" details for this project to get in touch with the project leader and express your interest in getting involved.
