PAID FACILITATOR POSITIONS AVAILABLE - Juntos Podemos (Together We Can)

This project is ongoing.

Project JUNTOS (TOGETHER) is a lab in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. Research in this lab focuses on the well-being of Latinx/Hispanic youth and their families. The 4th year of the JUNTOS Familia Study will launch in Fall 2024 to implement JUNTOS PODEMOS (TOGETHER WE CAN), a family-based program with a focus on how Latino/Hispanic teenagers can explore and learn healthy coping skills for dealing with discrimination and racism, with the overall goal of improving their health and well-being.

This phase of the study will be an experimental pilot test of the program, so there will be an intervention group and a control group participating. The goal of the 4th year of JUNTOS Familia is to improve JUNTOS PODEMOS for future years of implementation by assessing the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention. This program may not only assist with reducing the risk for alcohol-misuse, but may also generalize to other outcomes in academics, social, emotional, and mental health areas.

Facilitators will work with a group of Latinx/Hispanic high school students and their parents over the course of 8-12 weeks. Facilitators will lead meetings with students or parents, and jointly with students and their parents (families) to teach the program objectives. The role involves 10-15 hours of work a week (including prep time, facilitation, and one-on-one calls with participants), with a commitment spanning the 2024-25 academic year (August-June).

If you are passionate about community outreach and working with students and families, this could be the position for you! This paidposition involves field work across high schools and community centers in the greater Austin area. Working hours may be on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and early mornings as needed to accommodate the community of parents and students we aim to serve. We want candidates who are invested and passionate about fostering relationships with members of the community.
