School-Based Marginalization, Social Behavioral Competencies, and Achievement: A Meta-Analysis

This project is ongoing.

The African American Resilience in Context (AARC) lab in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is recruiting new undergraduate research assistants. You will be assisting with conducting a meta-analysis for a new project looking at how school-based marginalization is related to academic engagement, motivation, academic achievement, behavior problems, and psychological well-being. Undergraduate research assistants will work with other undergraduate students, graduate students, and Dr. Fatima Varner from the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. This is a great opportunity to gain research experience, take part in meaningful work, and be exposed to data analytic skills.

Qualifications

Students must have at least a 2.75 GPA.

They must be able to commit 10 hours per week.

Students should be comfortable reading social science research articles

Project Timeline

The project will start in September 2019. Research Assistant positions will be available during the 2019-2029 school year, as well as summer 2020.

Duties

Undergraduate research assistants will woread research article abstracts and titles to decide if they are eligible for the study.

They will also code research studies based on the study characteristics.
