Spanish Speaking Pediatric Volunteer Research Assistants

ONLY RECRUITING NATIVE SPANISH SPEAKING STUDENTS TO ASSIST IN SURVEYS IN SPANISH-SPEAKING POPULATIONS IN AUSTIN.

The Department of Pediatrics at Dell Med School has many excellent translational and clinical research projects going on throughout the year in a variety of areas. This pediatric research assistance experience is a competitive program intended to provide you with the opportunity to learn proper clinical research procedures and techniques. Supervision and training provided by our Dell Med Faculty is valuable and we expect professionalism and excellence.

Students will assist with a variety of research needs such as data collection, interviewing study subjects, and extracting data. All areas of research are within sub-specialties of pediatrics such as trauma, dermatology, nephrology, psychiatry, and more.

Qualifications

* Undergraduate
* Commit to 5-10 hours/week based on individual assignment for at least 1 semester. Longer commitments are preferred.
* Excellent attention to detail and initiative in job tasks
* Experience in data collection or management is preferred but not required
* History of academic success.
* Reliable transportation to Rundberg CommUnity Care Clinic

Project Timeline

Spring semester 2020, with possibility of work in the summer

Duties

Duties may include:
* Reading background information and protocols to better understand current research projects and study design methods
* Extracting pertinent data from patient electronic medical records for research purposes and recording data into excel spreadsheets
* Recognition of key medical information in the patient’s chart
* Performing a literature review based on journal articles and other publications
* Calling subjects for visit reminders or follow-up questions
* Tabulating survey results
* Participating in basic interviews of research subjects
* Meeting with supervisor on a regular basis to maintain ongoing communication

At least 1 semester, preferably 2 or more
