TexNet, the seismic network for the state of Texas (run through UT's Bureau of Economic Geology) is hiring two Undergraduate Research Assistants (URAs) to work on earthquake locations using TexNet data. The interested URAs will be trained to use the software used for earthquake detection/location for TexNet (i.e. SeisComP <https://www.seiscomp.de/>) and work on projects related to active earthquake clusters in Texas.
A laptop will be provided to each URA that will include all necessary software to connect to the TexNet HUB and retrieve ground motion waveforms and earthquake information.
The interested URAs can work from home using their internet connection and the CISCO VPN provided by UT or from the TexNet office area (2.112; PRC Building 130).
The URAs can start working as early as this Fall (9/1/2021 – 1/15/2022) and if they are interested in working with the TexNet team can continue to work for more than one semester.
Information about the TexNet Monitoring Program and Research can be found at https://www.beg.utexas.edu/texnet-cisr/texnet .
Any student interested for this excellent opportunity to work on the State of Texas seismicity should contact Alexandros Savvaidis (alexandros.savvaidis@beg.utexas.edu) by August 16th, providing his/her uteid and full name.
