I am looking for motivated students to help with projects that visually track animals in three dimensions in natural environments. I am using computer vision and Visual Simultaneous localization and Mapping (VSLAM) to track animals in three dimensions using GoPro and scientific cameras. We are primarily interested in fish and flying insects (dragonflies, butterflies, and pollinators). We will be looking at the use of space, flight statistics, coordinated movement, courtship flight behaviors, aggressive flight behaviors, etc. These techniques are new and facilitate the possibility of new research with the possibilities of publication. Students will be taking data in local field locations and analyzing the data with software that I have developed.
Some proficiency in programing. Field work familiarity. Organized and good note taking skills.
