Professors Mary Jo Kirisits (Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering) and Maura Borrego (Mechanical Engineering) are seeking a summer undergraduate research assistant to support analysis of survey results for a Cockrell School of Engineering DEI Seed Grant-funded project. The survey, which is currently in progress, investigates experiences of undergraduates in the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department. The research assistant will work approximately 5-10 hours per week for three months (June – August 2023), during which time they will support data visualization, statistical analyses, and report and manuscript preparation. In this position, you will develop skills in discussing DEI and climate in engineering, quantitative analysis, and technical writing. Passion for DEI and experience with data analysis (basic visualization and statistical analyses) using R or a similar coding language are required. Prior IRB human subject training is preferred (https://research.utexas.edu/ors/human-subjects/for-researchers/training/). This position could be partially or fully remote if needed. Individuals from groups historically marginalized in engineering are encouraged to apply.

Please email Dr. Kate Dowdell <dowdell@utexas.edu> (and cc Professor Kirisits <kirisits@utexas.edu>) if you have any questions about the position or if you would like to apply; if applying for the position, your email should include your resume and a note explaining your qualifications and interest in the work.

Application deadline: May 15, 2023.
