Virginius in Chaucer and Livy

This project closes on January 2, 2026.

This project undertakes a new look at classical and earlier medieval sources for Chaucer's Physician's Tale (of the death of the Roman maiden, Virginia) by examining the early 14th-century Latin commentary by English Dominincan friar Nicholas Trevet. I am looking for someone who can translate his medieval Latin and who knows or is interested in learning to read it in manuscript hands.

proficiency in Latin and translation skills familiarity or interest in medieval manuscripts
