Voces Oral History Center

This project is ongoing.

The Voces Oral History Center videotapes interviews with Latinos and Latinas of the WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War generations. it also scans archival photographs from interview subjects. It produces the annual peer-reviewed US Latina & Latino Oral History Journal. It has produced five books and several documentary shorts, a traveling photo exhibit. It provides photographs for documentaries and other purposes. It has also provided material for three original plays. It stages 1-2 major various public programs a year.

Voces' administrative offices are housed in the Moody College of Communication's School of Journalism. Its archives are deposited in the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, part of The University of Texas at Austin Libraries.

The work began in 1999 with the goal of filling a gap in the literature on the Latino/a experience in the US. In addition to the three war periods, Voces now has collections that cover political and civic engagement and professions.
