Research Interests

Growth factor pathways are key mediators of cancer development and progression. While many drugs target these pathways and are used for the treatment of cancer, Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) continues to be an important challenge since these drugs have not been effective to date. Dr. Van Den Berg's research focus is in understanding how intracellular signaling pathways work differently in TNBC in order to find better treatments for this disease. She focuses on the protein c-Jun N-terminal Kinase (JNK) as well as other proteins involved in tumor cell metabolism. She collaborates with biotech companies and academic researchers to test new compounds that are or maybe in clinical trials for breast cancer.
