His current book project, The Birth of Theatre from the Spirit of Philosophy: Friedrich Nietzsche and the Development of the Modern Drama, traces the role that Nietzsche’s approach to dramatic structure and theatrical purpose in The Birth of Tragedy and other works played in the revolutions in dramaturgy and stagecraft that marked the rise of modern drama.
