Research Interests
Enteric pathogens and the expression of proteins associated with the acquisition of the essential element iron. Because there is little free iron in mammalian hosts, pathogenic bacteria must express high-affinity iron acquisition systems to establish and maintain an infection. Research will allow us to determine the molecular mechanisms of iron acquisition and other determinants of bacterial virulence and ultimately assess the roles of these systems in bacterial infection.
