Children do best when parents and teachers work together to support their development and learning, yet many school systems struggle to effectively engage with parents as valued partners. ParentCorps, a scalable early childhood program for pre-k students and their families, was developed to effectively embed evidence-based interventions for both children and parents into high-poverty schools serving primarily families of color to achieve long-term positive outcomes for children. The main goals of ParentCorps are to engage and support communities of parents and early childhood teachers, promote nurturing and predictable home and classroom experiences for young children, and strengthen children’s learning, behavior, and health. The study will use a quasi-experimental design to assess the program’s impact on school, teacher, parent, and child outcomes.
Seeking conscientious, personable and enthusiastic research assistants to assist with a large intervention study of an early childhood social-emotional learning curriculum in title-1 elementary schools in Corpus Christi. In order to most effectively serve our study population, Spanish-speaking applicants are strongly preferred.
This is an ongoing longitudinal study that accepts applicants on a rolling basis. Students may continue their work in the summer if they are interested in the opportunity for continued research experience across a variety of areas.
- Call families to invite them to participate in the study, remind them to complete assessments, and completing assessments over the phone
- Make in-person visits (following university and public health guidance regarding safety) with study team to partner with schools/communities in order to engage school personnel and families in study
- Assist with outreach activities such as newsletters, birthday correspondence, and virtual storytime with young children
- Assist with data tracking and data management
