Erin Reilly is a creator, educator, and strategist with 20 years of experience inventing new approaches, products, services, and experiences about storytelling, engagement, and learning through immersive technology. As an educator, Erin currently is Professor of Practice and founding Director of Texas Immersive Institute, the interactive and immersive media hub at the University of Texas at Austin focused on research, projects, and learning the future of media. Her research focuses on audience engagement (behavior, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation via game mechanics, emotion), interactive storytelling with emerging technologies. She examines in what ways can storytellers immerse audiences into worlds that foster a sense of agency and presence within these new environments. While her projects vary, her specific interest is in researching and designing experiences for children and families.
I work with students at all stages - from freshmen to doctoral students. I supervise independent studies, non-credit projects, and formal theses connected to immersive media studies. I've also participated in the President's Global Award travel projects, and taken students on field trips to further learn about the immersive field.
