I have two main research areas --the history of German film, with a special emphasis on Weimar cinema, Nazi cinema, and DEFA cinema, and early film theory, media theory, and the history of media convergence --German culture and politics of the late nineteenth and twentieth century, with published monographs on the culture of the modern metropolis, the popular fascination with the Third Reich, and (ongoing) the making of working-class culture in the Wilhelmine period
