Research Interests

I teach and write about medieval and early modern intellectual and religious history, with an emphasis on the Italian Renaissance. I also work on the book history between manuscript and print, and the reception of classical and medieval texts in the Renaissance. Current research projects include two books on Machiavelli; and a collection of commissioned articles on medieval saints' lives. Longer term projects include editions of humanist writings; a study of a quattrocento hexameral commentary; a census of a Milanese collection of saints' lives printed c. 1477.
