Bioinformatic undergraduate research assistant - DEADLINE EXTENDED

This project is closed. No applications are allowed.

The labs of Nancy Moran and Howard Ochman are seeking undergraduate research assistants to assist with bioinformatic projects related to the evolution of genes and genomes in insects, bacteria, or aquatic systems. Please find the announcement below, and direct any questions to kim.hammond@utexas.edu.

Students will gain first-hand experience in the scientific research process, using bioinformatic methods to address biological questions. Each student will work closely with a research mentor in the Moran or Ochman laboratory. Students may have the opportunity for independent research pending interest and performance. Students have the opportunity for a paid research assistant position or developing a project for credit, as an independent study or honors project. Additionally, students will be included in the weekly lab group meetings in which grad students and postdoctoral researchers present and discuss their research.

Positions can start immediately. Students will work 10-15 hours a week. Preference will be given to students of sophomore or junior class standing who can work with the lab for at least a year including the summer. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in postgraduate research in biology. We will begin reviewing applications on Monday January 18, 2021.

For the Spring 2021 semester, new undergraduate positions will be remote and will not be in the laboratory. Applicants must have a good internet connection and access to a computer.
