The Linguistics Research Center has been involved in the use of computers to analyze language since its founding in 1961. LRC research projects have been concerned with deepening our understanding of language as a structure consisting of symbols. The computer has served as a tool for increasing knowledge of the system of languages of the past and present. As computational theory developed it became increasingly useful as an aid in understanding and manipulating language.
